2018/19 Operations Plan
During the Summer/Fall of 2017, Summerville DREAM engaged town residents in a series of conversations about the future of the downtown commercial district. We used the information gathered through these visioning meetings, along with census data, retail market information, and projections about the population growth in the Summerville area over the next decade, to develop an 18-month operations plan. This plan will guide the work of Summerville DREAM through June 2019. We will collect and analyze data on plan metrics, and use this information to inform another round of visioning meetings and data analysis in the Summer/Fall of 2019.
Below you will find two documents. The first is the actual operations plan, complete with Community Transformation Strategies, as identified by the National Main Street Center, and focus areas, as identified through our community conversations. The plan includes strategies for each goal area, as well as metrics to help us determine whether each goal was met. The second document is a summary of our visioning meetings and the strategic planning process our Board of Directors used in developing the operations plan. We provide this information as an accountability measure, so that everyone can see all ideas that were shared through these community conversations and better understand the process that led us to this plan.
A note about the operations plan: This plan is the first step in a much longer journey that is intended to position Summerville's downtown commercial district in such a way as to maximize the economic benefit of the population and commercial growth that is coming to our area. While there is much to do over the next decade or more, this plan addresses small but foundational elements that are essential in beginning this process.
The work of the plan will be done primarily through our four Main Street committees - Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization. You are invited to get involved with one of these committees and invest your time and talent in developing downtown Summerville!
