About Summerville DREAM
Celebrating our 23rd Year in Downtown Summerville!
Affiliated with Main Street South Carolina and the National Trust for Historic Preservation Main Street Center, Summerville DREAM promotes community pride and involvement through event coordination, business education and advocacy, support for aesthetic improvements, fostering tourism, and marketing historic downtown Summerville to residents and guests.
In 1991, the historic downtown of Summerville, SC, like many small towns across the country, was facing hard times; 40% of the buildings were vacant. Lifelong residents Rick Sutton and Cada McCoy rolled up their sleeves and did something about it. They drew together several hundred people and spent a year meeting, talking, exploring, and researching. The result was the formation of DREAM, the non-profit organization dedicated to the revitalization of the downtown area. Since 1992, DREAM has helped to bring focus and support to Summerville and its historic downtown district.
